Superhero Movie Pet Peeves

Always good, Matthew Baldwin surpasses himself: "I thought the new Iron Man movie was fantastic ... except for the parts that involved Iron Man, which lacked a certain je ne sais quoi (French for 'Robert Downey Jr.')."
We're going to see it tomorrow night, if all goes as planned. I'm looking forward to it.
Much more interesting, to my mind, are the asymmetrical rivalries.
Hrm. Not to my mind, I guess. Isn't the entire comic genre predicated on the notion that the real -- the pertinent -- struggle between good and evil is the one that takes place *within* the superhero? The whole "Dark Knight" movie juggernaut is moving in this direction (see also: the excellent Batman: Arkham Asylum graphic novel). And, seriously, the epic battle in Lord of the Rings was between Frodo and Sauron? In the lines, maybe, but between them...?
