I confess to worrying about tonight’s vote
More than worrying, I'm cursing aloud here at home. All the polls show Clinton tying or in the lead in Ohio and Texas, with all the momentum, too. And it pisses me off. Most of the news analysis says it has to do with one of two things, her pity-party complaints about how the Press hates her, which led to lots of coverage and favorable stories this last week, and a flap from Canada prompted by the Bush-chum Prime Minister there, about an Obama rep telling them he really does support NAFTA, despite what he is saying in Ohio.
Do you all understand that the Republicans would rather face Hillary in November? Is that getting through? Should she be the nominee, I will certainly vote for her, but she had damn well better win the thing. If she doesn't, she will have screwed the Democratic party but good. If Obama does not win the nomination, it will be almost impossible for him to run again (at least on a platform of hope and change) in 2012 or 2016. I think this country needs that hope, and that change.
If Hillary does manage to win (no doubt with a lot of her typical campaign strategies), she would be the first woman President, but she will get nothing done in an environment of hostile partisanship she brings on herself with her divisive politics. If she wins the nomination, and if she wins the election, she will find it next to impossible to govern. Universal health care? Not if Congress can't pass it. Out of the war? No way, she's too hawkish.
Why don't you all see that? Whine, whine, whine, I know. But if it weren't for the Supreme Court issue, I might think about voting for McCain vs. Hillary. Damn it.
Obama can run again, he is young. Clinton is loosing her charisma, 4 years will put her in the mid 60's. Everyone knows that Americans don't like an older women in power, okay there is Barbara Walters. What happens if Obama wins the nomination and not the general election? I don't know.
I did see a quote of Bill Clinton who was saying virtually the same message as Obama back when he was running. It was a winner. Contrast with negative adds from H. Clinton. THe debate coach I know here says Clinton has to go negative to win the nomination. Of course I wish she didn't do it.
Jutta says she wants to vote for MAC becuase of the perceived inequality of converage for Hillary. She doesn't think Obama will accomplish anything either. I am not so pessimistic, I like both candidates.
The polls don't close for, what, another seven hours or so?
David, it's not about youth. His is a make or break message. And I don't think Hillary being 60 would make much of a difference. She's a fighter, not a charmer. The people she inspires are inspired by her strength, tenacity, and achievements, not her good looks. And who is MAC? McCain?
Mark, you speak truth, the polls are not closed, the early-voting/by-mail ballots are not counted, the cows are still in the barn. But the trend line is disappointing.
I guess I am more in favor of letting the people decide rather than the superdelegates. MAC is short for mCCain. I am reading too many political blogs, sorry. Since I like both candidates it is hard to watch the division the race creates. I hear turnout is large, that should bode well for Obama.
I'm a realist. What will it take to win the general election? Both candidates? Maybe Edwards will take sides? His block seems to be out there and waiting. Or maybe an all black or all female ticket? Just trying to be real. i'm sure there are a number of chooices. Maybe McCain will pick a looser as a running mate?
I can think of plenty of big tickets. Obama/Edwards, Obama/Clinton, Obama/Powell? What about Gen Petraus? That would be a morale booster. Some one should ask Greenspan for advice or maybe a VP spot. That would back an interesting debate. We could use it right now with the markets.
It looks now that both Obama and Clinton will not carry the delegates to win until the convention. Am I wrong?
I hope they reseat the Florida and Michigan delegates as we need them in November.
I don't feel like blogging for Hillary if it means McCain wins by something I say or do on the Internet.
THe skeletons seem to be rattling for all three camps.
I wish we could talk about drugs in American and come to some consensus on their use? I mean recreational drugs..pot, steroids, mda....
dare I say it we should have an "what is your excuse" campaign? Rather than "just say no..."
