I’m reading Popular Science on the plane
What is it about NASA (and sundry spacefolk) and their acronyms? COROT. SOFIA. ASTRO. Is it a subculture like Apple's codenames? Which reminds me, what happened to those? Did the commercialization of Panther's codename kill the Apple codename zeitgeist?
I'm sure there are still plenty of codenames bouncing off the walls at Cupertino. Seriously, think about how much a government organization like NASA saves in a year by not having to print out "Convection, Rotation & Planetary Transits" every time someone drafts a memo.
